Not only have trade sanctions prevented average Iraqis from feeding their children, the U.S. deliberately bombed sewage treatment plants around the country to poison the water supply with deadly bacteria. Credible estimates suggest that more than a million people, half of them children, have died of dysentery and other preventable diseases, as well as malnutrition and starvation, since the end of the war.
