BELL MOBILITY AND NEOPOINT, INC. LAUNCH FIRST TRIAL IN CANADA OF WIRELESS LOCATION-BASED SERVICES
NeoPoint's myAladdin.com™ and Bell Mobility First To Offer Both GPS And Network-Based Location Services
(TORONTO, ON) April 12, 2000 -- Bell Mobility, a leading provider of wireless data and voice services, and NeoPoint, Inc., a market leader in developing of state-of-the-art smartphones and information services, today announced they have launched the first North American trial of myAladdin.com, a wireless location-based information service that operates on Internet-enabled digital PCS phones.
myAladdin.com is a comprehensive wireless portal that uses Global Positioning System (GPS) and network location technology to enable mobile consumers to access precision location information and obtain detailed driving directions to local businesses and other services, such as gas stations, restaurants and automatic teller machines (ATMs).
"Bell Mobility is pleased to support the first North American trial of myAladdin.com and to promote the development of wireless location-based services in Canada," said Charlotte Burke, VP Services Development at Bell Mobility. "We can all benefit from the ability to quickly and easily locate people, places and things whenever and wherever the need arises. Wireless location services make this possible -- which is why we are working hard to make these services available."
The trial of myAladdin.com features the use of two NeoPoint products -- the award-winning NeoPoint 1000, an Internet-enabled wireless smartphone featuring an 11-line display screen, and the NeoTracker™, an in-vehicle GPS receiver. Both products work in combination with Bell Mobility's Mobile Browser, a service that enables users to access the Internet from their digital PCS phone.
"Our unique location capabilities have positioned myAladdin.com at the forefront in offering comprehensive and integrated web-based information services via a variety of wireless devices," said Kevin Thornton, VP and General Manager of myAladdin.com. "Through our partnership with Bell Mobility, wireless subscribers are closer to realizing the promise of wireless data services in their everyday lives."
Trial participants can access the myAladdin.com portal by launching the Mobile Browser on the NeoPoint 1000 smartphone. The NeoTracker ensures that all location information provided by myAladdin.com is accurate and precise. Alternatively, general location information can be obtained directly from the network, especially useful indoors or in densely populated urban areas.
