I understand / acknowledge that one of the risks with self-installs is that entire nodes can suffer with a very screwed up self-install. My response is "take the risk". Allocate some of those trucks that are set aside for installs and let them be in charge of prompt responses to self-install problems.

Is there a way that ATHM can detect which specific users are screwing up the node, turn them off and send a truck roll to fix? Sure it's a costly fix for that one self-install (one that the self-install pays for), but for every self-installer who screws up the node, 1000 (?) more come on-line that work fine.

As self-installs become more prevelant, more people would opt to get a cable ready PC, thus alleviating many of the problems.
