I like Lonely Planet too.

I happened upon this write-up of a related series of cookbooks. I found it at azstarnet.com. The books have a good pedigree so they may be worth a look.

New 'World Food' books let you eat like a local
By Renee Enna
THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Looking for the best outdoor mercado (market) in Spain?

Want to know how to pronounce "restaurant" in Vietnamese?

Need a recipe for sellu, a dessert that's a must at any Moroccan wedding?

Foodies who travel the world -and even those who spend their vacations in the kitchen - will find lots to digest in the new "World Food" series from the Lonely Planet guidebook publishers. The books cost $12 to $13 apiece.

Each focuses on the food and wine of a single country.

They're petite enough for a purse but exhaustive enough to keep travelers (real and armchair) busy for weeks.

These insider's guides are filled with color photos and culinary dictionaries, anecdotes and maps and lots of recipes (though be forewarned, some measurements are metric).

Consume one of these books, and you'll be eating like a local in no time.

Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Spain, Thailand and Vietnam are represented in stores now. Future destinations include Ireland, France, the Caribbean and, closer to home, the Deep South and California.
