NEWARK, N.Y., July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Ultralife Batteries, Inc. (Nasdaq: ULBI - news) today announced that two standard sizes of its ultra-light, Ultralife Polymer(TM) brand rechargeable cells are now available for sale to qualified Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's) and distributors worldwide. Model UBC543483, at 5.4 mm (less than 1/4 inch) thick and 26 grams (0.9 oz.), is rated at 930 mAh. Both cells have a length of 83 mm (3.27 inches) and a width of 34 mm (1.34 inches). Ultralife also can produce a range of Polymer cells having the same length and width dimensions, but with varying thickness, down to less than 1 mm, making it the world's thinnest Polymer cell available. The standard cells, while originally designed for cellular and GSM phones, are also ideal for use in a wide variety of portable applications in the wireless communications, computing, medical, security, military and aerospace markets. Cell specifications and pricing are available by contacting Ultralife's sales department. Specifications are also available at the company's web site: ultralifebatteries.com.
John Kavazanjian, Ultralife President and Chief Executive Officer stated, ``We have worked diligently during the past year to both improve the performance of our polymer cells and prepare our manufacturing processes for high-volume production. This hard work has now culminated in our ability to proudly introduce our cells for immediate sale.'' Julius Cirin, Ultralife Director of Marketing added, ``Product designers have always said that thin, light, high-energy batteries would greatly enhance the design and capabilities of their products, allowing them to provide what today's portable electronics customers continue to demand: more powerful devices in smaller and lighter packages. Ultralife's polymer cells now provide those capabilities.''
Ultralife has supplied sample cells off its fully automated high-speed production line in its Newark, New York factory to numerous OEM's and distributors for testing during the last few months, and has received very positive feedback on their overall performance. The production line has completed its final qualification and is now in the process of undergoing a planned ramp-up, which will result in an initial Polymer cell production capability of 200,000 cells per month before the end of calendar 2000. Initial orders for cells are anticipated to be received during the 2nd half of the year.
