I have never minded a military budget that is actually spent on things that make sense, for example- personnel. It's an exemplary welfare program that can help people acquire skills. Mr. X got the GI Bill that way. I think the military did him a lot of good. But the WASTEFULLNESS of their projects is just silly. Mr. X's father was an engineer working in defense. And his opinions on that industry are unprintable.

Pork is to be found on both sides of the aisle and it can be sickening. The pork that puts people to work on unnecessary projects sickens me less than the pork that just enriches people who don't NEED enriching (like sugar protectionism, for example). I just think of programs that are unnecessary as welfare- like the DMV- it's annoying but a lot of really unemployable people work there. With their people skills they would never find a job in the private sector.

I hate government. I may have to switch from libertarian to anarchist- but I DO like public education in theory, and I love the California college system in practice.
