<I'm seeking your help as an expert in the disk drive industry>

I'm flattered by your statement but maybe one of the true experts will step forward with a more scientific explanation.

IMHO Maxtor did not surprise but perhaps expectations were a little high. The March quarter had exceeded expectations. Revenue, units and earnings took a mild seasonal drop but Maxtor is in a good position to ride an upturn in the long term.

A few recent articles noted a slowdown in PC sales in the U.S. due to component shortages. This is likely effecting technology stocks and particularly drive stocks that have most of their sales to PC makers. I consider component shortages as a short term problem that will be followed with latent demand.

Regards,
Mark
