PARIS, Jul 11, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

After a successful introduction on to the Nouveau Marche of the Paris Stock
Exchange, HighWave Optical Technologies, a specialist manufacturer of optical
components and functions, is continuing its development and has announced a

Opening of new site at Rennes

To meet ever increasing demand, HighWave Optical Technologies is opening a new
production site of 2,500 sq. m. in Rennes, FRANCE (of which 600 sq. m. is clean
room space). As a result of this, the production capacity for amplifiers will
increase six-fold in the next six months.

An expanded range of DWDM products which covers three-quarters of optical
functional needs

To increase its technological development, and to reinforce its market position,
HighWave Optical Technologies has just invested nearly FF100m by buying-out the
telecom division of Jobin-Yvon, a specialist in defraction optics. This division
develops and produces dense wavelength multiplexers/demultiplexers, components
which are used in the DWDM networks.

With a portfolio of 14 international patents, a turnover of FF12m in 1999
generated by 12 staff of which three are highly-qualified scientists, this
acquisition allows HighWave to position itself in a market segment valued at
$1bn for the year 2000 (Source: RHK) from which the company was absent until
now.

With an enlarged range, a huge increase in production capacity, HighWave Optical
Technologies is positioning itself as a major industrial player in high
bandwidth optical components for telecommunication networks.

Taking account of these elements, a new business plan will be presented in
October at the announcement of the half-year financial results.
