Robert Rosenberg, president of Insight Research, a Parsippany, N.J.-based telecom market research company thinks it's bunk to believe that a duopoly even exists in this fledgling fiber optics business. Why? Because he believes that the barriers to entry in JDS's business are low.
"I don't think there are fewer players, there are just fewer brand name players," he says, adding that he hears of new startups turning components into systems all the time. "A few good PhDs and a few million in seed money, and they build a better mouse trap."
Ah, but there's the rub --- getting those components designed, packaged, certified, and out the door. Mr. Rosenberg would have done himself a favor by admitting he wasn't qualified to discuss the company.
Thanks for posting the NYT article, too. Excellent publicity!
