Alcatel a major ALSC customer had Record Second Quarter 2000 with strong growth in sales and operating profit: The strategic repositioning of Alcatel is paying off PARIS, FRANCE--Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA; NYSE: ALA) today reported a 33% increase in sales to 7,687 million euros for second quarter 2000, from 5,772 million euros for the same period in 1999, with the four Telecom segment sales growing by 37%. Income from operations amounted to 638 million euros, a 37% increase over 465 million euros in the second quarter 1999, with the four Telecom segments increasing by 43%. Net income for the second quarter increased to 344 million euros, representing a diluted EPS of 0.32 euros ($0.31 per ADS), an increase of 23%. For the first half, total sales increased by 37% to 13,811 euros million and income from operations more than doubled to 751 million euros compared with 311 million euros in first half 99.
