iview1.newsedge-web.com Asia Intelligence Wire via NewsEdge Corporation : SHANGHAI, July 26, AsiaPort -- French-based Schlumberger Co, one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of smart cards in the world, plans to establish a joint venture at Pudong's Jinqiao Area to produce SIM cards for mobile phone users and IC cards for the banking sector in a move to expand its market share in China market.
Currently most of the products the company sells in China are imported despite the fact that the company now has two research and development centers in Beijing and Hong Kong.
SIM card is a crucial component in identification and information storage on mobile phone users, and banking IC card is thought to be an essential element in the development of the country's credit card market.
The planned joint venture would be financed by four partners, including the Schlumberger Co, Shanghai Post and Telecoms Co, Shanghai Feile Co and Shanghai Institute of Metallurgy.
