"A big test for the fledgling company for sure"

yet one that, when viewed as a challenge, can be turned into a positive. simply apply the same 'big test for the fledgling company' standard to handspring, and now you've got real testing and real fledging. <g3>

here was my view on this one month ago...

"PALM's near term success in the coming months (year?) may well depend heavily on the expertise of its management team as it bands together and tries to gather up components, especially LCD (liquid crystal displays). deal making ability, favors owed, favors due, past alliances, fair business practices, shrewdness, foresight.... these are a few of the variables i see having an effect on PALM's ability to weather the shortages." #reply-13938715

yes, a test indeed. and one that may well ultimately benefit the company that can prevail.

btw, the component shortages were initially blamed on explosive growth of the cellphone industry. now what about today's news with nokia? will decreased handset demand free up components for PALM?

we shall see!

:)
