(COMTEX) B: Marconi wins DEM1bn contract in Germany JUL 27, 2000, M2 Communications - Marconi has won a contract from German network operator VIAG Interkom GmbH to deploy a DMS (Digital Multi-point System) broadband wireless access system in up to 200 franchise areas across Germany. The contract, which is expected to be worth over DEM1bn in total, is part of VIAG's strategy to rapidly expand its synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) network to its key markets of small and medium sized companies, providing customers with links for voice, data and multimedia Internet applications. Marconi's DMS point-to-multipoint system will allow VIAG to provide data pipes of up to 8Mb/s to customers. VIAG will also be able to install extra bandwidth as customer demand rises instead of having to wire whole areas before signing up individual customers.
