SNC-Lavalin Awarded Turnkey Contract in Re-Powering of
SaskPower Station in Saskatchewan

VANCOUVER, BC--JULY 27, 2000-- SNC-Lavalin, in consortium with Hitachi Ltd., has
been awarded a turnkey contract by Marubeni Canada to re-power
SaskPower's Queen Elizabeth Station at Saskatoon. Under a
separate contract with SaskPower, SNC-Lavalin has been awarded the
civil works for the project. The total project value is $140
million, with SNC-Lavalin's portion at approximately $42 million.

Work will be carried out by SNC-Lavalin's Vancouver-based Thermal
Power Division, whose scope on the project includes overall plant
design, supply of balance of plant, civil works, and all
construction work. The re-powering will entail the installation
of gas turbines and once-through steam generators. The project is
to begin immediately and should be completed by mid-2002.

The Thermal Power Division has completed large coal-fired and
combined cycle plants for a variety of clients worldwide. More
recently, the SNC-Lavalin's Power Division has been forming
partnerships with manufacturers and developers on a number of
private power projects and has actively assumed the role of
turnkey contractor for power plants.

SNC-Lavalin Group is one of the leading engineering and
construction firms in the world, and a key player in the ownership
and management of infrastructure. The group and its companies
have offices across Canada and in 30 other countries, and are
currently working in some 100 countries. The company is listed on
the Toronto Stock Exchange (symbol: SNC).
