French Government To Sell Part Of Stake In Thomson Multimedia Dow Jones Online News, 07/27/2000 10:08 PARIS -(Dow Jones)- The French government Thursday confirmed plans to sell part of its stake in French consumer electronics maker Thomson Multimedia (TMS). The Finance Ministry said in a statement that the state will keep a blocking minority stake in the company. The government now holds 51.7% of the company, held via holding company Thomson SA. Thomson Multimedia's CEO Thierry Breton said in an interview Thursday in daily newspaper La Tribune that the state's stake in the company won't go below 33.33%. The company's strategic shareholders are Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), NEC Corp. (NIPNY) and Alcatel SA (ALA), each with a 6.8% stake, and Direct TV, which holds a 5.2% stake.
