Bruce,
I own a little OXY, too. It blew out earnings a few days ago, predicted better things to come, and you can pick it up at a p/e of below 5, paying 5.35% yield (dividend of $1, could rise). For some reason the Street doesn't love this stock, though. Yet. I posted on this stock a while ago. Average annual p/e ratio (VL) has been 13, let's just say OXY deserves a p/e of 10--it'll probably have normal (not extraordinary) earnings of $3 this year, $3 next year. Conservatively a $30 stock. Midrange guess: $3.50 earnings x 11 = $38.50. And, best case, if things really get hot and Irani delivers on the purple prose from the earnings release, fugettaboutit.
But best of all, what is OXY's downside here?
(One problem I've found with OXY, though, is it's hard to get enough premium out of selling the options to make them attractive to me as a ROI booster.) |
