Sorry Mr. Smart, the Iron Curtain fell because Reagan outspent the Soviets in military expenditures and caused their government to go bankrupt (financially, it was already bankrupt morally and philosophically).

The much criticized Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) also helped to break up the Soviet Union -- this according to Gorbachev himself.

The iron curtain fell more because of these many selfless acts of charity, goodwill and community over a long period of time.
