Forward deployment had three purposes: one, if there were a ground war in central Europe, there would be an immediate push back and attack on logistics, to try to end it early; second, there would be an attempt to confine the battle field,and, if possible, roll it back to the enemy territory; but most importantly, it was a way to ensure American commitment if there were the outbreak of war, by holding our troops "hostage", as it were, on the front lines....... |
