The Soviets MIRV'd their missiles, however, and they actually had a greater number of warheads than us. Plus you should remember that the Chinese still have ICBMs pointed at us, something most of the politicians and the public seem to forget.

Yes, we used atomic weapons first, but we were lucky. Had the Germans successfully completed the atomic weapons they were working on first and mated them to the V-2s (and A-3s - a rudimentary ICBM) plus adopted them to their jet fighter bombers we'd all be in the Third Reich right now.
