kcmike:

Based on the reported PC Data numbers, it looks like the Palm models in total had about 58% market share at retail, after allocating 25% to the Visor Deluxe, 13% to the Visor basic (max est., just behind the Palm IIIxe at 13.6%), and 4% to the HP Jornadas. Overall, Palm and Palm licensees had 96% market share.

Keep in mind that:

(1) PC Data monitors/samples only about 55% of the retail channel outlets;

(2) They don't give the +/- margin of error in their numbers based on the 55% sample;

(3) They don't include direct corporate and government sales; and

(4) They don't include any vendor direct retail sales, e.g. from web sites.

The point is, the actual overall market share numbers are likely to be somewhat different, since Handspring is almost 100% channel retail/direct retail sales, whereas Palm has significant direct corporate and government sales.
