Q is letting the world know that it intends to compete in the GSM market. It will design a WCDMA chip that works, as opposed to one that may or may not work produced by others. The question of whether WCDMA chips work is that they have not been field tested, hence Q wcdma chip could also be called vaporware for now.

Everyone should be aware that Q has also proposed non WCDMA solutions to the GSM market. It involves overlays of GSM 900 with 1X MC 900 and GSM 1800 with 1X MC 900.
