Hi richard suckla; Re: "If cost was not a factor and Rambus cost 5% LESS, would it then be the technology of choice? If not, why? If yes, why?"

This is sort of hard to parse, particularly for a logic engineer. First you say cost is not a factor, then you say cost is 5% less. Then you say Rambus where you probably mean RDRAM. So I'll rewrite your question and answer it: If RIMMs cost 5% LESS, would they then be the technology of choice? If not, why? If yes, why?

Yes, if RIMMs were cheaper, (and the motherboard costs for RIMMs were similarly reduced), then RIMMs would be the technology of choice. Why? Simple. Most of engineering is about money. Save money in a product to make the company profitable. Choose the cheap memory. Get it?

Of course, RIMMs will never be anywhere near the price of DIMMs. So you might as well say "if your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle."
