I would agree that Yalta was probably mishandled, but I don't think that an invasion of the Soviet Union was much of an alternative. They had a bit of an army mustered as well, and while we could probably have defeated them, it would have been a hugely costly war, and could easily have dragged on for years. Russia is not the easiest country on earth to invade, as a chap named Adolf had just learned. And I doubt that the average American would have sat still for the news that we felt in necessary to expend the lives a few tens of thousands more of their sons in a war against a former ally, to whom we'd been shipping arms only months before.
