Hi Scumbria; Re Rambus' management and prognostication...

I found the following quote kind of funny. Should make some amusement for mom and pop to read what Rambus was saying four years ago about the RDRAM price premium:

Memory-bus wrangle September 23, 1996
"Rambus expects to see production of 64-Mbit RDRAMs [Rambus-specific DRAM] by the end of 1997," said Subodh Toprani, the company's vice president of marketing. By that time, price should be at parity with SDRAMs. [BWAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!]

The company is now offering a 600-MHz speed grade on its low-latency devices. But over the next few years, sources said, Rambus expects to offer a 3- to 4-Gbyte/s burst speed from a single RDRAM. This speed increase will come from a combination of increased bus frequency and a wider on-chip interface, but without major changes in the Rambus protocol. Hence there should be minimal changes to bus controllers designed to work with Rambus. "We know how to run something close to 1 GHz for a few centimeters distances across a standard circuit board, without huge changes in technology," said Toprani.
