Mr. E. Akkawi
EARTH (Canada) has introduced the RPA bilge water treatment system (BWS), a cutting-edge fully automated application system that removes oil and grease from bilge water discharged into seas and oceans. Designed for ocean-going vessels, the RPA bilge water system can reduce discharge content to below regulatory levels and is engineered specifically to treat high flows. Using RPA technology, filters within the system can be reused 100+ times and will require no disposal upon return to shore.
This cutting edge solution is revolutionary because no other system can clean to five parts per million and be reused using the same absorbent. The BWS solution addresses the tightening regulations being enforced as witnessed with a record $18-million fine to the world's largest cruise liner for discharging oily bilge water from its ships. According to US Coast Guard estimates, 1.25 billion pounds of oil enters the marine environment annually. "This application represents a milestone," comments E. Akkawi (president and chief executive officer), "...as this Canadian solution was designed all in-house and fills a niche in our product line." He continues, "The potential of this technology is very exciting, as the BWS solution achieves a cleansing level not attainable by other technologies. It is flexible in dealing with entire spectrum of bilge water, and potentially less expensive then the competition."
The BWS is gaining international interest and has attracted attention from governmental marine agencies and ship builders and is expected to be of particular interest to port authorities, ship liners and cruise liners. This innovative technology can help keep our waters clean and help boat owners avoid pollution fines associated with oily bilge water discharge.

EARTH expects to negotiate Kuwait remediation trial

Mr. Edward Akkawi reports
Following a recent presentation to Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), the official petroleum agency for the Kuwaiti government, KOC has shown keen interest in the company's RPA technology and negotiations to commission test trials of a specialized engineered RPA system to treat "emulsified oils mixed with impurities" left in the wake of the Gulf War are expected to commence shortly. This first breakthrough comes after two years of negotiations with strategic local partners.
Trials of the specialized RPA system will address the enormous problems of oil disposed in "oily lakes" in the aftermath of the Gulf War. The lakes, estimated by some to contain 200 million barrels of oil, not only represent a great economic value at today's oil prices if they were to be recovered, but poise tremendous hazard to the environment if continued to be left untreated.
Edward Akkawi, EARTH's president and chief executive officer, comments: "This must be the largest oil remediation project in the world and represents a multibillion dollar opportunity. We are confident that our RPA solution is not only able to treat the oil for such impurities but also offers an ideal solution for safely recovering this valuable commodity."
