From today's SkyREPORT.COM:

<US-Mexico Agree On DARS Plan

The United States and Mexico reached an agreement
on the joint use of DARS offerings within their
border area.

Under the pact, announced Thursday by the Federal
Communications Commission and the State Department,
the nation's two DARS licensees will be able to
provide continuous programming around the border
area. The agreement covers the wireless repeater
network that will be used by the two DARS companies,
Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio. It
also removes any potential issues for the U.S.
satellites beaming into the same area.

Under the agreement, satellite DARS operations may
include repeaters to fill in but not extend past
service areas. The DARS service of one country may
not be offered for sale in the other country.

The agreement has been under negotiation for the past
two years and its signing is a major step toward
establishing long term stability for DARS and
terrestrial systems operating in the border area.
The FCC also said the agreement provides a reference
upon which future service developments in the border
area may be based.
