More on UMC: Analyst Predicts UMC Will Also Raise It's Chip Prices Untied Microelectronics Corp. told some customers it would raise prices by 10 percent according to an analyst. "It's only for certain customers and not across the board," said by Primasia Securities analyst Alfred Ying. The price increase was made with the understanding that the customers can also secure additional capacity at the same price. The assistant to UMC chairman John Hsuan said the company could not comment as it's going through a quiet depository receipts soon. UMC's average selling price for wafers will be higher because the company is upgrading its production technology and moving to a better product mix, Ying said. post.messages.yahoo.com
