Caxton, I think you've got it exactly right. I would add that in addition to the royalty issue, WCDMA was floated as a means to delay roll out of 3G, or more specifically, to keep the GSM golden goose laying eggs for as long as possible. I keep going back to IJ's comments which were essentially, we don't care what flavor CDMA, just so it gets rolled out. Q's recent moves seem designed to light a fire under 3G CDMA roll out, no matter what the flavor. FWIW, my personal opinion is that we'll ultimately see some variant of CDMA 2000 with compatibility to GSM (dual mode chip, overlay?). All the big SP's want global roaming and that means ultimately a converged standard. IJ predicted this as well. All JMHO.
