We had the capacity to blow up Moscow. Nevertheless, the Soviets reneged on the Yalta agreement and got into a direct confrontation with us during the Berlin crises of 48 (the airlift). How paranoid could they have been? Why is it that the most bellicose Cold War president managed to get the best deals with the Soviets? How paranoid could they have been?
