You are correct, the VP does not make or break an election, except in this case where the majority are swing voters and each candidate has more or less a pro-business platform.

On msnbc last week (btw I consider msnbc to be conservatively-biased) they ran a story about a potential McCain VP nomination. The station was positively giddy, they ran all these McCain spots they had from 15 years ago when he won for governor, interviews with McCain's friends etc. The entire weekend was McCain. I'll bet Gore was shaking in his boots that weekend. Then the announcement came - Cheney. Nothing more positive about Cheney, just excuses for why he did this and that. I believe women swing voters will see Cheney as extremely negative. Whats wierd is there was no reason to pick Cheney - what does he bring to Bush?
