Elizabeth Dole could also step in as president, and I'm sure many other republicans are equally prepared.

OK - let me ask you this, do you think Cheney fits in with the campaign slogan "compassionate conservatism"? And if he does not, then what was the reason for compassion in the first place? Why not just stick with the same old hard-line playbook they used in last election?
