It seems to me that SanDisk's SD technology incorporated into the MMC is the logical answer to concerns over copyright infringement. SD gives the creater of the music or other copyrighted material the option to deny the right to make an identical digital copy of the original (but a slightly degraded analogy copy probably never could be prevented). While I can understand both the pros and cons in this issue, since I myself provide copyrighted material online, the reality is that the moment one music selection or other type of copyrighted material becomes available on the Internet, there is presently no law or other restraint on making as many copies as are demanded. The ultimate result is that no creator of copyrighted material would be able to make a reasonable profit on the sale of just one copy. And that sale would be all that was necessary to distribute the material to millions of users.

If the composer or the originator of the copyrighted material wants to give it away, that's fine with me. But what if the originator would prefer not to give it away? What alternatives are available other than to have copyright laws and a system for paying royalties? The flexibility in providing both choices is part of the design of the SD MMC.
