Re: AMD would love nothing better than to trump the 1.13 GHz but their best shot is only 1.1 due 8/29.

Herb, how many 1.13GHZ parts do you think INTC will ship for every 100 1.1GHZ parts AMD ships? Be honest with yourself, no need to post a reply (and I won't throw some number at you).

My guess is that part of what happened to INTC's price today is that a number of people started asking themselves that question. Then they laughed a bit thinking about how long Intel has been claiming it was keeping up with AMD's 1 GHZ process and how painfully obvious it was that those claims were, at best, honest errors. Then they frowned a bit thinking how badly last quarter would have turned out if INTC had lost 2.3 Billion in the market instead of gaining 2.3 billion playing the market. Then they thought a little more about how nobody expects more than token shipments of 1.13GHZ parts from INTC while everyone is confident that AMD will provide volume 1.1 GHZ parts as claimed.

Then, thinking "who can I trust with my investment dollars" they called their brokers.

Intel built up an enormous reserve of credibility over the past two decades. They've burned most of it up in less than a year.
