Unfortunately, these guys are a good target for a shareholder lawsuit, having a good deal of cash and having a series of events such as the above. I wonder when the market makers got wind of these problems - in the drop from from $40 to the teens? It would be interesting to look at institutional holdings between June and July - if someone at the SEC hasn't already started their own inquiry. Also the short volume during the same time would be interesting to look at.
