Argentina, UK To Jointly Explore Oil - Xinhua: Comtex, July 27
BUENOS AIRES (July 27) XINHUA - Argentina and Britain agreed Thursday to continue the analysis of cooperation to promote exploration and exploitation of oil in South Atlantic sea areas near Malvina Islands (Falklands).
According to a communique sent out Thursday here by Argentina's Foreign Ministry, during the 8th meeting of Southwest Atlantic Hydrocarburate Commission that concluded Thursday in London, both parties didn't arrive to big decisions, but did coincide on certain points.
Regarding matters related to a legal calling in the area of special cooperation, both parties agreed "it was necessary to carry out additional work regarding the system of qualifying firms, hygene and work security".
They also coincided in the need to work to "harmonize specifications, future environmental work and taxes", specifies the communique.
The commission analyzed, furthermore, questions related to marine environmental protection and carrying through of joint scientific investigation projects in the southwest Atlantic.
Ever since relations with Britain were reestablished after the Malvina (Falkland) war of 1982, this was the 8th meeting of Southwest Atlantic Hydrocarburate Commission, and the first meeting the present government holds with British representatives.
The previous meeting was held in Buenos Aires in July, 1999. |
