Thursday July 27, 8:30 am Eastern Time Company Press Release SOURCE: Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. Vishay Reports a Record $0.96 EPS for Second Quarter; A 71% Sequential EPS Increase MALVERN, Pa., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Felix Zandman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH - news) announced today that net earnings for the second quarter ended June 30, 2000 were a record $131,853,000 or $0.96 per share on record sales of $612,771,000. Net earnings for the quarter ended June 30, 1999 were $20,181,000 or $0.16 per share on sales of $425,323,000. Earnings per share for the second quarter of 2000 increased by 500% over the second quarter of 1999 and increased by 71% over the first quarter of 2000. Sales for the second quarter of 2000 increased by 44% over the second quarter of 1999 and increased by 14% over the first quarter of 2000. For the six months ended June 30, 2000, sales were $1,151,665,000 compared with $848,381,000 in the previous year's six months. Net earnings for the six months ended June 30, 2000 were $206,124,000 or $1.52 per share. Net earnings, before non-operational items, for the six months ended June 30, 1999 were $35,561,000 or $0.27 per share. Commenting on the results for the second quarter, Dr. Zandman stated, ``We are extremely pleased with the results for this quarter. We achieved, yet again, all time records in sales and net earnings. Bookings in the second quarter were $858,000,000, the highest quarter of bookings in the history of the Company resulting in a book to bill ratio of 1.4 to 1 for the second quarter. The backlog at the end of the quarter was $943,000,000, again the highest in the history of the Company. Our gross margin for the current quarter was 41.5% of sales and increased 133% over the same period of last year and 35% over the first quarter of 2000. This was the result of increased volume, a very favorable product mix, price increases, continuing cost reductions and productivity improvements. We continue to see strong business conditions in all of our product lines fueled especially by continuing demand for telecom and other wireless communication devices. Our direct inquiry with most hand held telephone producers indicates production of over 500 million phones in 2000 and over 800 million phones in 2001 compared with sales of 284 million phones in 1999; this, of course is dependent on availability of components which are still in short supply with prices on an upward trend. Other end markets such as automotive, computers, semiconductor and industrial equipment, medical devices, instrumentation and even military sales are doing very well. Our resistor and diode product lines have recently seen the beginning of a cycle of extreme consumption with customers on allocation resulting in price increases. We are especially pleased with our new product introductions, which have resulted in many design wins and started recently to show substantial sales.'' Dr. Zandman continued, ``We are one of the world's broadest manufacturers of electronic components with major worldwide market positions in resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, transistors, MOS devices, electro-optic components and integrated circuits (ICs) in the area of infrared transceiving, analog switching and DC to DC converters. This provides us with many avenues for future growth and not be dependent on only one product group.'' Dr. Zandman concluded, ``We will continue to pursue additional acquisition opportunities as in the past to further accelerate the growth of our business and strengthen our leadership position in the markets we serve. Several acquisition opportunities are presently in advanced negotiation stages. By the end of the year, we should be debt-free excluding the cost of any possible acquisitions. We should continue to see improved margins in upcoming quarters and we are quite confident that the current strong trend of business will continue for the remainder of year 2000 and into year 2001.'' Wednesday July 26, 3:46 pm Eastern Time Company Press Release SOURCE: Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. Vishay Intertechnology Releases New Ceramic Chip Capacitors, Thin-Film Chip Resistors, and High-Intensity LEDs MALVERN, Pa., July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH - news), has announced the release of new multilayer ceramic chip capacitors, thin-film chip resistors, and high-intensity LEDs. The new family of multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) can be used as true surface-mount, space-saving replacements for film capacitors. The Vishay Vitramon Cer-F series is the first ceramic dielectric on the market to effectively mimic the electrical characteristics of film capacitors in high- frequency filtering applications, providing designers with a smaller, less expensive, and completely surface-mountable alternative to film components. Typical applications will include consumer and automotive stereo systems, equalizers, and crossover networks, where the new devices provide the tight temperature coefficient of capacitance performance required to preserve signal and sound quality over the temperature range to which the components are exposed. The new thin-film chip resistors are compliant to the QPL MIL-PRF-55342 specification with established reliability at the ``R'' failure rate level of 0.01% per 1000 hours or ``C'' non-ER level. The Vishay Thin Film M55342 military-qualified resistors are available in four new case sizes: 0.230 x 0.075 in. (M55342/05), 0.209 x 0.098 in. (M55342/08), 0.259 x 0.124 in. (M55342/09), and 0.105 x 0.100 in. (M55342/10). With a power ratings from 200 mW to 500 mW, the new devices provide 0.1% tolerances at resistance values from 100 ohms to as high as 3 megohms, and 1%, 2%, 5%, or 10% tolerances at a resistance values from 10 ohms to as high as 3 megohms. The M55342 series is intended for the stringent performance requirements of a wide range of military applications The new family of high-intensity LEDs features a full color range of devices with a wide viewing angle and high luminous flux for vehicle brake lights, taillights, and turn signals, as well as traffic signs, outdoor message panels, and warning lights. The Vishay Telefunken TELUX(TM) LEDs are offered in red, yellow, true-green, blue-green, blue, and white versions. They are packaged in a clear, industry-standard 7.62 mm square package optimized for maximum light output. Luminous flux for the new devices ranges from 650 mlm for the white TLWW 7600 to 2000 mlm for the red TLWR 7600 at plus 85 degrees C Tamb. Designed to yield a precise and homogeneous spatial radiation pattern, the TELUX lens allows the use of fresnel optics or parabolic reflectors with consistent results. Vishay Intertechnology, Inc.
