The Democratic National Committee must be feeling pretty desperate to make that site. They must be more worried than I thought.

I tried to tell their faithful followers Gore was unelectable over a year ago.

Gore's Abortion Hypocrisy Exposed

Exposing the "dishonesty" of Al Gore's stance on abortion, a right-to-life agency has compared the Democratic presidential contender's 1979-1984 congressional voting record with that of Republican vice presidential candidate Dick Cheney, who served with Gore in the U.S. House during that period.
"We just think [this information] is helpful to point out ... the dishonesty of the many attempts of Gore to mischaracterize Bush and Cheney's position on abortion," said Douglas Johnson, legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee.

"Gore has insisted he has always supported Roe v. Wade ... and that's not true."

During that six-year period (1979-1984), Johnson reported, "there were 17 roll calls on the House floor on significant abortion-related issues." Cheney and Gore reportedly voted alike 13 of the 14 times they were both present for roll calls. Cheney is a staunch pro-life supporter.

"Specifically, both men consistently supported the Hyde Amendment and other similar amendments to prohibit federal funding of abortion, except to save the life of the mother," Johnson said in a press release.

"Both men voted against proposals to approve federal funding of abortion in additional circumstances, for example, in cases of rape and incest."

Gore 2000 campaign officials did not return a telephone call for comment. Johnson, however, doubted the exposure would harm the vice president's campaign. He said that was not his intent, anyway.

"The relevance of this is simply because Gore and many of his supporters would like to characterize Bush and Cheney [as radical pro-lifers], and we think that would be more difficult to do when people are reminded of his position during the House of Representatives," Johnson said.

National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League officials did not comment, but the agency's Internet site documented a clear preference for Gore.

Calling Gore "pro-choice" and Bush "anti-choice," NARAL officials claimed the vice president voted 40 out of 51 times to protect abortion laws during his tenure as a U.S. senator between 1985 and 1992. The group did not analyze Gore's voting records during his eight years in the U.S. House (1977-1984).

NARAL asserts on its Web site that Bush has approved 18 measures restricting abortion during the five years he has served as governor of Texas.
