Hi:

I think you're going to hear a lot of stuff like that. That market is one giant rumor mill and CNBC reflects that. These rumors are useful to day traders who want to know market sentiment every second. For me it's just an indication of how the day might go.

What disappoints me is that all their information is superficial. They aren't going to block out 20 minutes or half and hour to present a more detailed look at a company, its products, or the market segments it competes in. Then, often, the information they do present is wrong or misleading because their reporters don't want to take the time or don't have the time to learn enough to ask the right questions or sort out the misinformation from the real story.

So I just use CNBC to get a feel for market sentiment, and such facts as what industry groups are up or down, advance/decline line, volume, etc.
