shootie, I don't think Wayne and Clift got along too well, because of sexual preferences but, according to every biography of Wayne I have read, if you were a buddy of his, he got you into his movies. Harry Carey Sr. was one who helped Wayne get started in pictures, so you see Harry Carey Jr. (or Olive, as they called him) in almost every Wayne film. Ward Bond, and Wayne, played football together at USC, so that's where that friendship got started, and Wayne pick up on Ben Johnson, because he saw a real cowboy, and horseman in him. Bruce Cabot was a poker buddy, so you saw a lot of him. The list goes on, and on. Wayne took care of his friends, and was greatly admired for that quality.
