Ford, Qualcomm Reportedly in
Internet Deal

Ford (F:NYSE - news) is set to announce Monday a
joint venture with Qualcomm (QCOM:Nasdaq - news)
that will bring wireless services to automobiles, The
Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources close to the
deal.

The deal would mark Ford's long-awaited entrance into
telematics services, which include bringing phone,
Internet and entertainment services to vehicles, the
report said.

The new company is tentatively
called Wingcast and would be
based in San Diego, the home of
Qualcomm. Dearborn,
Mich.-based Ford is expected to
be the largest shareholder in the venture.

By 2004 every Ford vehicle will be equipped with a
wireless system, the article said.

Ford closed Friday at 46 3/8, down 1/2. Qualcomm fell 3
1/8 to close at 62 7/16.
