ADVC news
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2000--The Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Communications Technologies Inc. (OTC BB- "ADVC") Roger May announced today that the company's Australian associate, Advanced Communications Technologies (AUS) Pty Ltd., had been awarded one of the largest research and development grants ever approved by the Australian Federal Government's Industry Research and Development Board (IR&D Board) to assist with the final development of the revolutionary new wireless communication network technology called SpectruCell. The grant of almost AU$12 million (US$ 7million), was presented to Roger May by Senator The Honorable Richard Alston, the Minister for Communications and Information Technology for the Australian Federal Government. The funds will be applied to completing the final development of the first prototype of the SpectruCell unit, completing a rigorous testing program, and gaining the necessary licenses before the official product launching. The IR&D Board, assisted in its role by AusIndustry, the Commonwealth's business unit in the Department of Science Industry and Resources, is made up of private sector and academic members with experience in research and development and commercialization, and seeks to increase the level and commercial success of industry research and development undertaken in Australia. AusIndustry, which is part of Commonwealth Department of Industry Science and Resources, provides assistance to the Board and administers the Research and Development Start program under which this grant has been awarded and which seeks to increase the number of research and development projects with high commercial potential. SpectruCell, which certainly has high commercial potential, has been in development by ACT at its Melbourne head office in conjunction with RMIT University since 1998. The SpectruCell unit is a next generation multiple protocol mobile communications base station or cell that unlike existing networks is designed with entirely new network architecture that will process and transmit all communications protocols.(AMPS,CDMA, TDMA, GSM, W-CDMA, UMTS, Mobile IP, Voice IP, 3G etc) as well as all of the new wireless Internet applications and all within one network. Roger May said he was very pleased that the Australian government had approved the R&D grant as it was a very significant validation of the SpectruCell technology, and would greatly assist ACT in bringing SpectruCell to market early in 2001, and would be primary factor in establishing ACT as a world leader in wireless communication technology. "We are obviously extremely grateful to the IR&D Board for this grant, " he said. "It is an endorsement of the Government's commitment to supporting young Australian companies with strong demonstrable management skills that are seeking to develop leading edge products with international market appeal. "It is also a very strong endorsement from the Australian government of the importance of the SpectruCell technology, and will assist the team of committed young professional engineers we have put together in ACT to realize their hard work, and for ACT to put a product on the market which will have a world wide impact on the telecommunications industry. "I am pleased to say that this grant will also benefit RMIT Innovation Ltd, the commercial research and development arm of RMIT University, which has helped us considerably in our development work to date and which will continue to work with us as we go forward. Many of the engineers working on SpectruCell are graduates of the Computer Systems Engineering Department at RMIT University." Roger May said that discussions he had had in the last few weeks in the United States suggested that SpectruCell would generate keen interest from a wide range of customers and would help establish ACT USA ("ADVC") as a key player in the US market. "We intend to develop and manufacture SpectruCell using the excellent skills of our Australian team, but will be conducting a strong marketing program across USA and the world to insure the product is fully recognized for its unique capabilities by as many potential users as possible," he said. ACT in Australia is certain the grant will help to insure the commercial success of the SpectruCell technology, and is pleased that the company has gained the recognition of the Government with its internationally competitive product. The Australian company Advanced Communications Technologies (AUS) Pty Ltd is twenty percent (20%) owned by the US public company Advanced Communications Technologies, Inc (OTC BB "ADVC").
