Hadn't realized the issue was this confusing. Guess someone had to be there to get the whole picture.

The point is not whether Luc was right or wrong in posting "GFY" in a message. The acronym was in wide use before Luc was tossed.

As I explained privately to someone else, who for some reason still is misinterpreting it, the issue was *not* that the acronym "gfy" was used. Within the confines of this thread, you guys can tell each other to "gfy" to your hearts' content when it's good-natured banter between you.

I know how it is. My best friend and I swap this quip frequently. Something similar is often included (privately) in conversations with one of my dearest friends here. I think it's tacky to do so publicly, in much the same way I invite my best friend to know himself only when we're not within earshot of others, but tacky has never been an issue here.

So, I acknowledge the benign, male-bonding aspect of the phrase, and want to clarify that its use here is not the issue.

*How* it's used is. In the same way it wouldn't be appropriate for me to say it to a stranger, no matter how tempted I might be, it's also not appropriate here to say that to someone in another thread in response to a statement of theirs we don't happen to like.

When it happens here, between the regulars, it's just tacky quipping. When it happens elsewhere, to someone else, it's a personal attack.

Regards,

SI Admin (Bob)
