Re: DEC's virulent attack. I agree with you. In all I have read on this thread, no one has come up with a convincing reason for why such an approach could benefit DEC in any way.

The best reasoning for the suit seems to be a fear of the Merced and an attempt to squeeze in between INTC and HP. But coming on the way they have and "personalizing" the attack on Grove/Barrett seems to be inmature to say the least.

From the DEC comments, your "conspiracy" thought could be closer than the rational person might think. For some, it's tough to accept responsibility for your own failures. It is very appealing to blame it on your competitor taking unfair advantage of you. To me the full page ad is the clincher in this scenario. It reminds me of the Confederacy and the "Lost Cause." It's weird.

Fortunately, it has only taken the market two days to see through DEC's case and conclude that it may not be that damaging to Intel. I wonder when they will conclude that Intel's success could spell DEC's doom and bail out entirely.
