| Well, you have a more baneful view of the tube than I, and are, it seems, more confident that he would do something better with his time. My sister- in- law used to live in LA, and made a big deal out of rarely watching tv. Finally, I visited her and her boyfriend. What did they do instead of watch tv? They hung out in a neighborhood bar, got drunk, while her boyfriend heckled the singer, made stupid jokes, slapped a few backs, and generally acted like yahoos. I think they would have used the time more profitably watching an average sitcom, assuming they didn't get soused before 9. They would need to concentrate, follow a plot, get clever repartee, and would get a glimpse into, say, a city government, or a department store, or a radio station, or.....again, not all that accurate, but not wholly alien, either......... |
