WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2000--Vertel(R)
Corporation (Nasdaq:VRTL), a leading provider of mediation software
for telecommunications networks, today announced that the U.S.
Department of Defense (DoD) has purchased a comprehensive package of
Vertel products including Vertel Mediation Framework, the Java and C++
versions of e*ORB, CORBA Services including Naming, Logging and
Notification Services, the Vertel CORBA Simulator and TMN Products.
This latest order by the DoD is part of a multi-year contract.
DoD elements are undertaking a major redesign of their network
management infrastructure that will allow standardization across an
assortment of proprietary and commercial communications solutions that
are not currently coordinated. This endeavor will provide greater
visibility into the operational status of specific networks and can
minimize the risk of unplanned service outages.
"We view Vertel's products to be of strategic value to the DoD's
efforts to design and deploy a robust network management
infrastructure," said Cyrus Irani, President and CEO of Vertel.
"Vertel was chosen for its proven software technology as well as its
professional services experience in architecting carrier grade network
management solutions worldwide."
"The Department of Defense continues to be a significant customer
for us," added Irani. "We are pleased that the DoD sought us out for
additional licenses and services based on our prior relationship and
