There is some evidence that all or part of this scenario may happen.
Notice that CYRX and DEC are using the same New York law firm.
They file suit within a day of each other. IBM is already deep into business with INTEL and HWP on MERCED wheras AMD and DEC
do not have a credibles horse to ride. DEC tried to make a deal with INTEL to use the ALPHA as the basis for its 64 bit processor.
Why not make the deal with AMD and use the NEXGEN team to
implement a 64 bit clone? I would not be suprised if this has been going on for some time already.

The reason that alliance failed is that they backed the wrong processor architecture. The X86 architecture for better or worse is
the dominant architecture.

I think the war plan has already been made and we are just getting
a glimpse of it. So far I think the execution is not impressive.
