IMHO, while we have seen a price performance improvement of two orders of magnitude in about 15 years, we will necessarily need another 5-8 years and at least another order of magnitude reduction in cost before PON schemes are a viable economic option in the last mile.... Somewhere around here a have a academic (as opposed to a consultants puff piece) study that calculates the price elasticities of fiber and its componentry (shuffling papers - not found). The numbers are eye-openers. IMHO, you'll get that order of magnitude and in less than 5-8 years. ww
