Did you ever consider trying to sell them what you developed to use as examples?

No, I offered it for free.

don't many of the developed examples that ship with MSFT products come from outside developers?
Microsoft does whatever it takes to get compelling examples so that developers will build good applications, which in turn generates sales for the technology platform. They do that because they are focused on marketing.

I think they had to switch strategies, clearly trying to get the world to switch to an OODB wasn't working
Guess what? If the IT department likes using Oracle then they will buy Oracle's XML products. In my opinion, the B2B products face almost exactly the same hurdles as the ODBMS products. I can tell you from personal experience that if you are trying to sell something to an IT department that loves Oracle, it had better use the Oracle DBMS. Hiding the ODBMS behind some XML will not make a lot of difference.

The terrible truth is that ObjectStore is a great product that hardly anybody understands, and that corporate IT departments dislike because they do not understand it. In my opinion, an IT department that rejected the best ODBMS will reject an XML product that has the best ODBMS behind it. Either way, the key task has to do with product positioning and customer education. Not renaming the company.
