Paul, thanks for you reply.

Did some rooting around and found this in Hoover's Handbook:

"In 1968, 3 PhD engineers from Fairchild Semiconductor created Integrated Electronics, in Mountain View, CA, to realize the potential of LSI technology for silicon-based chips. Robert Noyce (co-inventor of the integrated circuit, 1958) and Gordon Moore handled long-range planning, while current CEO Andrew Grove oversaw manufacturing.

Intel started with 12 employees and first-year sales of $2,762 but soon mushroomed ..."

Astounding ... the miracle of free markets! Socialists, beware!

Also fascinating to discover most silicon chieftains today all came from the same primordial Fairchild soup ... I guess you had to be in the right place at the right time.

As for Fairchild, this appears to be yet another historical allegory of how the once-mighty have fallen. Intel beware!

Regards,
Pietro

P.S. You sure know some absolutely fascinating stuff! Wish I could do a direct download via UltraSCSI. <grin> I guess for now I'll have to settle for reading all your posts.
