Yes, well, 1/4 acre lots are appropriate for about 2500 sq. ft., you might fit up to 3000 on 1/3 acre lots, but much over demands at least an acre.......My father's neighborhood, though all of the houses are "ritzy", looks much too cluttered, and you can almost feel the squeeze at on end of the block........
